More Blogging Psychology

We read this post on "The psychology of blog publishing", and it's one of those ideas that just won't let go of your imagination. Really, bloggers are a unique lot. Most bloggers work for free, the rest either work for ad revenue or web marketing purposes, either with a very small return for effort. As anybody who's blogged longer than a few months knows, it gets to be hard, hard work.

What could possibly be the motivation for this? To add to David Airey's insights, here's some more aspects of blogging psychology we've noticed:
  • Instant gratification: You'll sometimes get an idea and think "I must blog that immediately!" and you go do that. You can hop out of the shower with your hair still wet, or even get out of bed to do it when the idea kept you tossing and turning.

  • The social urge: Just like having a chat in person is sometimes a fun thing to do, sometimes you blog just to give a shout out to your friends in the same circle, or to show your support of another's idea.

  • Performance anxiety: Sometimes when you haven't blogged for a while, you get kind of blocked. After three day's silence, you don't want to follow up with some wimpy cat picture. So you want a big idea, which will take another day to think up. And then you've waited four days...

  • Therapy by ranting: You wonder how many violent crimes out there could have been averted if the perpetrator had just had an account set up with Blogger.com. Truly, it's the best way to get something that's bothering you out of your system.

  • Nesting: Here's your spot, so how do you make it unique? Over time, you accumulate a blogroll. Then you see some nifty widget out there and you have to snag it to use on your site. Over time, you fill the page with trinkets, gadgets, and widgets. It's just like how you furnish a home; a bit at a time, until you have the space filled. Then it's yours.

Corporate Web Design Strategies

One of the most important marketing tools that a company has is its website. Corporate websites are very instrumental in expressing the ideas and the background of a corporate entity to the public. Often, corporate websites can be the first step in creating a rapport or an understanding between their customers and the company. Especially in the 21st century, most people will try to contact a particular company or try to find out about a particular company by its website. Hence, as you can see, the design of your corporate website can be very instrumental in your company’s success. Don’t forget that in most cases, your corporate website will be the first step between you and your customers and often it will be the only medium between you and your customers, especially if you work on a global scale.

Then, you may wonder on what you should look for in a corporate website design. Obviously, a corporate website needs to be much more than just a regular website in order to be deemed successful. First of all, it is imperative for your corporate website to have a look that is totally unified with your corporate policies. This means that your corporate website design must be able to incorporate your company logo, your company colours, as well as your corporate themes to all of the aspects of your website. Each page of your corporate website must be able to unify and integrate all aspects of your corporate identity, so that every visitor can get a surreal feeling for your company. For example, if your company uses blue as its color, then all pages should have blue themes and soft tones as a result.

Corporate Web Design Strategies 2

Another important aspect of a corporate website is the presence of the corporate ideas on your website. Whatever the principles of your company may be, it is important for these principles and ideas to be presented clearly in your website. Don’t forget that your website serves as a portal to your customers and thus the ideas and the principles behind your company must be expressed clearly, so that your visitors can really understand what your company is all about. Especially in the competitive business world of today, expressing your differences and advantages as compared to the other companies can make a huge difference.

Of course, perhaps the most important aspect of your corporate web design strategy is the fact that your website must look very professional in order to generate interest. This is the most important aspect, as this look of professionalism will permeate to your products and services as well. If your corporate website doesn’t look professional, then chances are that people won’t be too fond of your products either. In your corporate website, you should incorporate some graphics to give a glossy look to your website. However, these graphics should not be too flashy, so that they don’t distract your visitor from the core issues in your website. In addition, your corporate website should have some sort of communication forum between you and your customers to add to your professionalism.

Web designing tricks for contemporary businesses

The very basic thing that you need to remember while designing your website is that visitors love original content. As long you provide them good quality content and user-friendly web pages, they will remain with you forever. Make sure that the content is short and is presented in short paragraphs using line breaks and bullet points so as to provide easy-to-absorb information. If you are dealing with products meant for older people, you may require screen reader tools for your website. A larger text would be easy on the eyes and also help in making them understand about the products and services in a better way.

Website wireframe basics

Simply put, website wireframes are simple line drawings that are used to indicate the placement of elements on a web page so that it becomes easier to edit the entire layout.

Website wireframe thus happens to be the first stage in web designing.

Website wireframes allow you to critically evaluate a design in the absence of distractions like colors, text, and other web design elements. With the help of website wireframes, you not only get an idea about what goes where on the web page but also tells you how much space each element would be occupying. Things that you should incorporate in the website wireframe would include navigation buttons, logo of the company, search boxes, login area, and content areas.

The Basics Of Web Layout

A web layout plays a crucial role in a website design, and is a guide that helps you to come up with text, graphics, and designs in a particular manner. Web layout is the basic draft of what your website will appear like at the final stage. Therefore, you need to pay equal attention to text, graphics, and designs when working on web layout.

Here are a few basics of web layout that can help you make the best of your website.

• A layout should be simple and neat. Make sure there are not many graphics. The text is more important, thus make use of correct font size. Although images and graphics add to the attractiveness of your web page, they will be a hindrance when it comes to downloading. A normal visitor does not wait more than 7 seconds for the page to open.

• Do not ignore the white space. It helps the website look neat and simple making it easy for the visitors to read. If you do not use the white space well, and characters are too close, the page will look ugly and cramped.

• When designing a website, remember the average size of a monitor. When your website is opened on any screen, it should adapt itself to the appropriate screen size.

• Colors on a web page should not be dull or too bright. Whatever color you use for both background and the characters should be sober and easy on the user’s eyes.

• Have a perfect balance of picture and text. To upload a large image with small text in a far corner can be confusing. Keep text to the right of an image to make it easy to read.

• When it comes to designing a website, you simply cannot place any thing anywhere. There has to be a proper place for everything. In web layout, be sure about what content and graphic that every page should contain. Let there be a proper flow of thought on your website.

• The navigation needs to be simple and easy. Many people try to make fancy navigation buttons confusing the visitors. If a browser is not able to figure out navigation, he will leave your site and move on. Thus when creating your navigation keep an average user in mind.

• Make sure you have proper text width. An average person can read about seven to eleven words on a line. Long sentences or too short sentences can be a big turn off for the visitors. Thus, you need to keep the length of your sentences perfect to enable easy reading.

• If you plan to use templates, go for the unique and less popular once to avoid being a part of the herd.

A proper web layout results into a well designed website. Many ignore the fact of web layout; however, it is a plan that will guide you. To make an appealing yet simple website, be ready to work hard on the layout. Layout can give you a perfect ideal of what the website will look like. A well-planned web layout is necessary to come up with well groomed website.

Pitfalls of website designing

Most websites fail despite having a good layout, font, and absorbing content. Most of the times this happens because people use ready-made templates that have been used thousands of times before and they all end up looking just the same. Templates no doubt make web designing extremely easy but that does not mean you do not add any personal touches to the website at all. You can take cue from the template and do a bit of modifications so that it looks different if not unique. Customization is the key to successful website designing. Another reason why some websites fail is that they do not apply any search engine optimization techniques to boost their web traffic.
